Life after death stories. THE GREEN PARTY has elected Catherine Martin, a former town councillor, as its new deputy leader at the party’s annual conference in Dublin today.

Members have been gathering for the first meeting of the Greens since their election wipeout in March with new leader Eamon Ryan making his inaugural speech.

Martin, from Carrickmackross in Co Monaghan, went head-to-head with former Senator Mark Dearey and Northern Ireland party activist John Barry, reports breakingnews.ie.

At the conference, the party has also been calling on a new generation of people to stand be elected as Green Party representatives in future local and national elections.

The Green Party’s website describes Martin as a secondary school teacher and an accomplished musician.
